September 2015

My friends and I that use Stitch Fix often compare items we've received, so I thought I'd start blogging it for them. It's easier than just texting our not so stellar iPhone pics (my apologies) to each other or Facetiming each other while we try everything on to get each other's opinions.
If you haven't heard of Stitch Fix, I'll fill you in. You create a personalized style profile, schedule a “fix” for a $20.00 styling fee, then wait for your package to arrive at your doorstep that a stylist has put together based on your profile and or Pinterest board. They're like Santa's little helpers. You try everything on in the comfort of your own home, rather than dragging 3 or 4 kids into a dressing room with you. You keep what you like, what you don’t you send back. Your $20 styling fee goes towards your purchase and if you keep all the items in your fix you get a 25% discount, which often basically comes out to getting one item for free. You also get a referral link you can pass along so others can give it a try too!  If they schedule a fix you get a $25.00 credit.
Mine is www.stichfix.com/referral/4732601
Once you sign up I advise you to set up a Pinterest board and add it's link to your style profile. I did this and had my friends do the same. Some even added me as a contributor to their boards. I find Stitch Fix items I like and pin them, stating what I like about each item. I'm sure to put in my profile if I'm crossing my fingers for a specific item like a comfortable pair of boyfriend jeans. I don't need accessories at this moment so I also request to not receive those. So far I've been pleased with my experiences. I feel like the stylists have listened to my wants, needs, likes and dislikes.

I usually have the same stylist, Emilie.
This month I asked her to hunt me down a few things I was hoping to add to my closet for fall (if it ever arrives) which were a poncho or a plaid/flannel cardigan, and some extreme flares, super tight up top and flared at the bottom to make your legs look a mile long.
Clearly, I never left the 90's.
By Fix BFF Emilie did not disappoint. She found all the things I asked for!
Mavi summer flare jean
I LOVE these jeans. I got them in a regular length. At 5 ft 6 in I will only need a slight heel with them. So for you ladies taller than I am, ask for these in a long length so you can wear them with boots and add crazy length to your legs!
I love how they're tight at the top but pretty flared at the bottom. Speaking of bottoms, I don't have much of one after having so many kids in a few short years changing my shape but these jeans might my tush look alright again. Oh and they have cute square pockets on the front. They're fun for fall. And now they live in my closet. They're $98 which I know is more than a lot of us usually spend on jeans but I don't mind that price for a high quality pair of denim I'll take care of and wear often. If they were maternity that would be a different story.

Staccato Tansy cowl neck pullover poncho
I love this. I love gray. I love ponchos. I love throwing something on over a t shirt.
So naturally I am smitten with a gray poncho. It's great to pull on over jeans, even or leggings when you're leaving pilates or barre. This one is super soft and I love the cowl neck. Plus as I was trying this on my hubby walked in and said "You look so good right now, I love your skin when you wear gray." Okay, sold.

Skies are Blue Maliya poncho cardigan
Emilie gets me! I asked for a flannel or plaid poncho or cardigan and she sends me a plaid poncho cardigan! I love this. It might be my new fav thing from Stitch Fix. It's crazy soft and think and I've already rattled on about how I love gray. She suggested I wear it with a skirt (I have scrawny chicken legs so that's tad intimidating) but I def agree that it's a cute way to style it. But I'm also looking forward to pairing it with jeans for some fall football/soccer games and maybe a bonfire or patio night here and there. It is ridiculously warm and cosy and I think I could fit all 3 of my babies under it with me! It's begging to be cuddled under. Between this and the Mavi flares I felt like I should be in the 70's and headed to a Graham Parsons or Allman Brothers concert.

Skies are Blue Timberlake split neck top
Despite being made by Skies are Blue and named Timberlake I just couldn't get behind this top. It made me look like a Nana, not a mom with a baby on her hip. The color/pattern was fine but I have another Stitch top in a similar color/pattern. I didn't like where it hit. I prefer tops to be longer. It's more of something you'd tuck into a skirt if you worked, which I do not. And I am not a fan of the button tab sleeves. I see where Emilie was going with this. It has a cool tribal print embroidered detail on the shoulders, neck and down the middle of the chest. But it just didn't ring my bell.

Skies are Blue Zatanna contrast back knit top
I liked this top. It's a cream color, I adore neutrals. And it was ultra soft and breathable. It had an interesting back with a t strap, lace and 2 types of fabric. So it seems right in my lane. But the way the front was sewn together down the middle made it look a bit cheap in my opinion. I didn't hate the shirt, it's casual and comfortable, but I just have so many other tops in my closet I'd rather throw on when I need something casual and comfortable, I didn't think this would actually ever make it into my rotation. So I sent it back so it can find a good home with someone else that wants to throw it on with a great pair of boots and jeans or over some cut off denim shorts.

This month I didn't have my usual stylist, Emilie. But I had been fairly specific in what I'd requested so I knew I'd get at least one piece I'd like.

One item I'd requested was a nautical striped top.
Ask and you shall receive.
This is the Market & Spruce Corinna striped dolman top
I feel like nearly everyone that subscribes to Stitch Fix has this top in one of it's various colors so I was glad to snag one in navy. I'd requested navy or gray. It's just as soft as other bloggers mentioned and I love the cut. Keeper! Oh, and don't be scared of the stripes. I know I usually do but I've seen this on countless Stitch Fixers and it's lovely on each of our various shapes.

Next up was this tank and jeans.
(I'd also requested distressed jeans.)
These are the Kut from the Kloth Haiden distressed straight leg jean
And these were a big fat no.
I felt like I was back in maternity jeans. I didn't take detailed pictures of myself in these because they just did nothing for my shape. In fact they aged me a good 15 years. I only wear skinny or boot cut/flared jeans. No straight cut. And this is why. I have a serious case of chicken legs and when I wear straight leg jeans it looks like I borrowed them in an emergency. They just don't work for me. Back in the box they went.
And allow me to introduce the Skies are Blue Crispin scoop neck top
This is cute.  The pattern seemed very Mediterranean to me. And I loved the little key hole detail in the back, and the cut of this tank. It would be great with light washed distressed jeans, white jeans or even cut offs.

Then I got to this beauty...
The Laila Jayde Salderas hooded cardigan
Oh my peas did I love this cardi! It was a fantastic length and weight. I loved the neutral color. I'm all about neutrals. The hood! Oh and pockets! Yes sir, I was smitten.
Only, I already own a cardigan in this length and color, sans hood and pockets. I wish I had been sent this before I'd bought the one currently residing in my closet. So with a sigh I sent it back. But if you're in the market for a cardigan you can wear with anything, request this.
It's fab and deserves a good home.
I think the stylist sent this because I'm in the market for a neutral colored baja hoodie. I want the one from Teen Beach Movie (yes, you read that correctly, I have a 7 year old so cut me some slack) but I haven't been able to track it down yet.

Also peeking out from under the perfect cardi was this sweet top.
The Skies are Blue Alexa embroidery detail tank
This is a really lovely color of thread, like a pool blue. Beautiful. But I already have this in a cobalt embroidery and the long sleeve peasant top version in red. So I didn't figure I'd need 3 of the same top in various colors, so I returned this gem as well.

Lately I've been able to keep Emilie as my stylist. She checks out my Pinterest board and tries to find pieces she thinks I'll like. She is usually so good at picking my items that I often already have similar versions in my closet.

Here's what she sent me in June.

This is the Papermoon Loraine lace trim knit tank in blue.
I love blue. I love lace. So when I pulled this out I was sure I'd keep it. But then my husband asked if I didn't already have a few shirts with lace at the bottom. So I looked at my closet and sure enough, front and center, there were like 4 tops with lace trim at the bottom staring back at me. See what I mean? Emilie gets me. If I only had one top like this I would have kept it. But since I similar tops in various colors I decided to send it back. But for those interested, it is super soft and a great length.

And the lace trim is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

Next up was a fun top!
This is the Le Lis Jarah crochet back knit top.
This too was super duper soft. And how fun is the back?!
The front is totally casual, here's a close up of the black and gray skinny stripes...

I felt like this was something that you could dress up with a black skirt and heels with this crochet back, or just throw on with jeans since it felt like a soft jersey material. I'm sure someone else could rock this but from the front it didn't work for me. I looked like a bean bag chair.

Then we hit a snag.
Allow me to introduce to you the Gilli Adah maxi dress.
You can tell by the look on my face that I was less than thrilled with this one. There wasn't anything wrong with the dress itself, it just did NOTHING for me. No, that's not strong enough. This dress made me feel awful about myself. I put on a bright necklace. Nope. That didn't help. Threw on a cardigan. That made it worse. This was just awful on me on every level. Perhaps on someone younger and cuter this would work, but on me I felt like it screamed "Yep! I had 3 babies in 5 years. Can't you tell?"
Back in the box it went, asap.

While I was already feeling bad about myself I decided to get this skirt out of the way. I already have a few patterned maxis that I hardly wear because I feel like they only work with a chambray top or a tank/cardi combo. And I live in the south. It's only cool enough for all that a few days a year.
This is the Market & Spruce Char ikat print maxi skirt.

I like the print and vibrant colors. I just knew I'd never get around to wearing it.

And finally, this top I pulled out and figured it wasn't worth even trying on. I'd seen it on Pinterest on several ladies older than myself so I wasn't feeling it and had not pinned it. But my hubby liked it so I threw it on.
The THML Mary-Kate geo print embroidery detail tank
I put it on with some jeans first and still wasn't feeling it, even though the embroidery is cool.
So then I tried it with some white shorts and liked how vibrant the cobalt blue is, and thought maybe I need some more age appropriate 'mom' clothes in my life instead of my usual hippie/casual/comfortable stay at home mom garb.
Plus, with the embellishments on top I don't really need a necklace or scarf. Since I'm always carrying a baby, less accessories hanging off of me is always a plus. So of all things I kept this top, which I thought right off the bat was a no go and had not pinned on my own board. I did pin it on the boards of a few friends that I thought wouldn't have a problem pulling it off. But this one is now in my closet and has been to the circus and managed to survive vacation bible school without so much as a kool-aid stain.

Some even added me as a contributor to their boards. I find Stitch Fix items I like and pin them, stating what I like about each item. For example: I love the back cut out details of this top and the fact that it's a bit longer, it doesn't hit right at the hips. Or, I love this color block dress with pockets, fun and functional for work. I'm sure to put in my profile if I'm crossing my fingers for a specific item like a comfortable pair of boyfriend jeans. I don't need accessories at this moment so I also request to not receive those. So far I've been pleased with my experiences. April 2015

This month my stylist, Emilie, knocked it out of the park! She paid close attention to my Pinterest board and sent me a box full of things that were just my style.

First was the Skies are Blue Kendra knit top.

It's an off white color. Yay. I love neutrals. And it has this fun bohemian style print embroidered on it in dark gray and rust. Oh, and a little key hole detail at the top. It's super comfortable and versatile. I wear it with shorts or jeans. I love it.

This is a Skies are Blue Casey embroidered blouse.
I'm not usually a fan of blouses. That fabric just isn't my cup of tea. But this top I liked. I really dig the black embroidery at the neck and down the front. The pattern isn't something I would have bought myself. I most likely would have bought this in a solid had I seen it in stores. But the pattern ensures that it works well with various bottoms. I typically wear it with these white shorts and wedges but it's cute with skinny jeans, too. I even wore it to church with a black pencil skirt. It's light weight and easy.

Emilie also sent me this Collective Concepts Rosco floral print crochet detail tank because I'd pinned it to my Stitch Fix Pinterest board.
I'm all about crochet or lace. This has various colors on it, making it easy to pair with jeans, like the Liverpool Mira skinny jeans, also in this fix, or a pair of shorts. I really like it with distressed denim or a cute little pair of navy shorts I own. It's a great addition for summer in the south.

Lastly she included this THML Kahlo knit top.
Everyone I follow had added this top to their boards. For that reason, I didn't add it to mine. But she thought I'd like it (I do love embroidery) so she sent it. I'd seen it in various colors, both solid and striped. I'd seen it in short sleeve and as a tank. But this style of sleeve was the right choice to send me. Plus, she couldn't have known it but I own a children's soccer company and this gray, white and orange embroidery matches the color scheme of our brand! So I can wear it to the rare work event, but also just to run to the store or out to dinner. It's also versatile. I like it with these white shorts and moccasins but it's just as cute with boyfriend jeans and flats or wedges or under a cardi. So even though I didn't think I'd want this in my fix in the colors I'd seen, being gray and orange made it a winner. Plus, it meant I was keeping all 5 items (the boho top, the crochet tank, the skinny jeans, and the embroidered blouse) which made the jeans nearly free!
So they were all winners, as is this month's stylist Emilie, and I requested to keep her every month. I'm convinced we'd be best friends. I appreciate that she genuinely looked into my likes and dug through inventory to find pieces she thought I was sure to love. I don't know if they get a bonus or something if we buy all 5 items, but they should! Cause I was thrilled with this fix.
Bravo Emilie!
Slow clap.
High fives.

March 2015

This month my stylist sent me some real gems. She pulled one top off my Pinterest board. The others were items she thought I'd like.

The first was the Pixley Florence colorblocked dress.
I liked this dress a lot. Navy and Kelly green are both flattering with my coloring. The cut was loose and the fabric comfortable. Had I not just bought probably 5 or 6 'church' dresses, I'd have kept this one. But since I usually only wear this style of dress once a week (stay at home mom) and I already have cute dresses in navy and this green, I decided to return it. But it wasn't an easy choice. It was really cute.

Next up was the Millibon Philip hooded poncho. Oh my cuteness!
I love ponchos. I love gray. I love comfortable. I love hoods. This had it all! I could see myself wearing it with these black Rune Porter leggings, also in my fix, or over yoga pants to and from barre or pilates, grocery shopping, etc. It had pockets people. Pockets! I was smitten. However, it was knit. So to get it all sweaty after a class at the gym meant to hand wash it. Then I'd have to lay it flat and hope it didn't lose it's specific shape. The fact that it was knit, like a sweater, meant returning it was the right thing to do. It wasn't practical. But it was also the saddest bit, too. I really, really liked it but just couldn't see myself weekly hand washing a knit poncho that smelled like a gym. Boo.

Then there was this Skies are Blue Sia floral embroidery peasant top.
This is the top I'd pinned in navy with white embroidery. But I love me some red so I squealed when I found this in my fix. I wore it out to dinner that night with some skinnies. Got lots of compliments and a few friends liked it enough to pin it to their boards. It's the only item I kept from this fix.

Last was this Skies are Blue Jax V-Neck button down top.
Truth be told, I never left the 90's. So this plaid top is totally my thing. The stylist guessed correctly. It wasn't flannel, it was a blouse. Very light. Very comfortable. But it was a v-neck so where you see it buttoned, that's the top button. It was hanging off me. It was a medium, as I'd put in my profile. But I think a small would have fit better. This felt like it would slide down and show a little too much for this mom of 3 little ones at any given moment. So I returned it and updated my profile, asking the stylists to send me smalls from now on. It was a cute and versatile piece, but it just swallowed me whole.

It was hard to keep just one piece this time. They were all super cute. My stylist did a good job at picking items I'd like.

February 2015

In February I feel like my stylist wanted to cover all the bases. She sent me a solid fix of basics. Unfortunately my closet is pretty set on basics. I already had in my wardrobe items very similar to almost everything she sent me. So I only ended up keeping one item, the Renee C Matisse Boat Neck Blouse. It has thick royal blue piping. The mint and coral at the top is very pretty in person. And it's a fun, on trend print. It's easy to throw on with nice jeans, distressed jeans, shorts or a skirt. It's loose fitting and covers my tush. I tend to stick to neutrals so I kept this since it was so unlike anything I own. I figured some color would do me good.

Super fancy teething necklace sold separately ; )

She also sent these items...
Sorry I didn't snap pics of them on. I know that really helps you to get an idea.
I already had a similar black knit cardigan.
But this was light, a great length, and so soft.

And I had some skinny jeans in this color. But these were really soft as well.

This was a beautiful lace sleeve blouse but it's navy and I have one in black. Shame, I definitely would have added this to my closet if I didn't already own something so similar. I felt like this one was nicer than mine.

And I have a wrap dress, but mine is in black. I hated this print but I see why she sent it. A wrap dress is good to have in your closet.

So even though I only kept 1 item, I was still pleased with this fix. She sent things she thought I'd like or might need. How could she have guessed I'd already own similar versions of these items? I felt like the stylist tried to do a good job, which I always appreciate, even if it missed the mark this time.
